We were born and raised locally in Arcadia, CA. Our stepfather came into the picture when we were around six. He was a technician, so we grew up helping and doing it as a hobby. Owen started wrenching at a young age. My dad worked for Ford dealers, was a self-employed mobile technician, and owned a shop in the 80s. Then he worked in the auto parts field, then car sales. Owen worked on cars growing up and started his first technician job after school changing oil. Then he started full-time at a local auto shop, then moved on to Jaguar and Aston Martin dealers.
Owen and my dad opened our first smog testing center in 2000, where my dad managed it, and Owen came in part-time after the dealer and on weekends. I tried to venture off and not get sucked into the automotive field, so I earned a degree in graphic design. I finished school, and we decided to open a second location for smog testing around that time. I joined in 2001 when we opened a second Test only smog station. I managed it at first and did freelance work for graphics, decals, and signage. I then saw the need to obtain a smog license so that we could always rely on someone other than an employee. I ended up smoging vehicles for the next ten years. After many failed attempts to start a car sales lot at the smog shop due to zoning and county issues, we decided the next best thing that we knew. In 2009 Owen was also looking to move on from the dealers, and we lost the lease on the first smog station, so we decided, "let's open a shop."
With Owen's experience and expertise on the caliber of vehicles he knew, we could utilize this as few shops work and specialize in British cars. We also learned and dealt with many shops and felt we could bring something better to the industry: an honest, professional, knowledgeable, clean, and trustworthy shop with exceptional customer service. We could give what we felt the industry was lacking. We decided Pasadena and the surrounding areas would be an excellent place for this. Then we opened Pasadena Motor Cars. (it seemed like a good idea at the time) I (Aaron) have a background in graphic design, signs and advertising, and management. We all brought something to the table with the three of us, which worked great together.
